In Selinsgrove Borough, Council has appointed a Shade Tree Commission and has given it exclusive custody and control of the shade trees in the Borough. The Selinsgrove Shade Tree Commission has the authority to plant, remove, maintain and protect shade trees located within Borough streets, easements or Borough property. In addition, the Commission reviews applications for the removal of shade trees located within Borough streets, easements or Borough property to assure that such removals are justified and, if so, to mitigate the impact of the removal on the community.
The removal, pruning or planting of shade trees within the Borough of Selinsgrove may require the submission of a permit application and approval of the Shade Tree Commission.

The Shade Tree Commission's regulations and standards for pruning are the Tree, Shrub, and Other Woody Maintenance - Standard Practices (Pruning) as set forth in the American National Standards for Tree Care Operations published by the National Arborist Association, Inc. and approved by the American Standards Institute, Inc. on May 22, 2001.
